Touch me if you can？

このタイトルを聞いて、ピンと来た方も多いと思いますが、2002年公開の映画「Catch me if you can？」のもじりです。 この映画は「世界をだました男」（フランク・W・アバグネイル・Jr著）を基にした作品です。天才詐欺師であるフランクは息をするように嘘をつき、ひらりひらりと追手となるハンラティや周囲の人間を煙に巻き、真実を悟らせません。 

 「Catch　me～」というタイトルとなったフレーズは、「できるもんなら捕まえてみろ」という意味となり、鬼ごっこの逃げ手の掛け声にあたるものだそうです。さて映画の結末は各人で確認していただくとしますが、このタイトルが妙に気にかかり私はずっと覚えていました。

 物理的にあたかもそこに物があるように、触れて操作できるタッチパネルが生活の中に普及してずいぶん経ちました。今はスマートフォンや携帯ゲーム機等、手に収まる程小さなタッチパネルが日常のものとなり、それ以外でも様々な場所で使用する機会も増えました。 東京へ向かう電車の中で対面に座った数人の乗客が並んでスマートフォンを使っている様子をぼんやりと見ていてこの絵画作品のシリーズを思いつきました。 画面上でその乗客たちは1人1人異なった様々な作業をしていたでしょう。しかし画面を覗き込む視線、触れる指は必死に何かを探して追いかけるように、同じように動いているのです。その様子はとても興味深く、多くの想像と感情を私にもたらしました。

果たして、私たちの探していた何かはタッチパネルの中でみつかり捕まえられるのでしょうか？

As many of you may have heard, it's a play on words from the 2002 film Catch Me If You Can? The film is based on The Man Who Deceived the World by Frank W. Abagnale Jr. A genius con man, Frank lies to the point of breath and cleverly tricks his pursuer, Hanratty, and those around him to keep them from finding out. 

 The title "Catch me~" means "if you can catch it, try to catch it." By the way, I would like you to check the ending of the movie by yourself, but I remembered this title for a long time.

 It has been a long time since touch panels, which allow us to touch and operate things as if they were there, have permeated our lives. Today, smartphones, portable game consoles, and other devices with touch panels that fit in the palm of your hand have become commonplace, and there are more and more opportunities to use them in a variety of places. 

 The idea for this series of drawings came to me while I was staring blankly at my smartphone at several passengers sitting across from each other on a train to Tokyo. On the screen, passengers perform their respective tasks. However, the eyes looking at the screen and the fingers touching it move in the same way, as if desperately searching for something and chasing it. The scene was very interesting and brought a lot of imagination and emotions. Were you able to find and catch what you were looking for on the touch panel?
